I’ve been really working on keeping an open mind and taking each workout and each interval as it comes and not thinking ahead to oh no there’s a big surge right after this threshold interval and I’m already tired so I’m totally going to bomb it. It’s really hard! But I’m finding the more I do it, the better I get at it and the better I get at it the more I get to be surprised about the results

@Stefanie i think I said it in an earlier post I self talk a lot “you can do anything for 30 seconds. “. It’s “only” a minute. ONLY.:rofl:

I’m back home, and with school starting, I’m fully committing to my workout schedule. I’m going to take this advice to heart.

Thank you for posting this here. Like @bkolden I do not check other social media sites.

For me today in my workout this advice was totally a game changer! I beat myself up after the workout yesterday and was very discouraged. But this advice was so well timed and I used it today and came out of the workout feeling almost refreshed because I did not waste any extra energy fretting over my mistakes. I will add an additional thing for myself to remember is that comparison steals joy.

Love this @bkolden!

Lacking motivation is often due to a lack of purpose. Purpose provides the direction and meaning behind every workout, ride, and/or event. Without it, training can feel mundane and meaningless.

Purpose is your internal compass, guiding your decisions and sustaining your effort, even when the going gets tough. It connects your daily grind to larger goals and aspirations, fueling the intrinsic motivation necessary to persevere and achieve fulfillment in your sport.

Find your WHY, and let it drive you forward! :muscle:

Suggestions on finding that “why” when there is not a big event on the schedule? I mean I know the ultimate “why” is to get/stay healthy, for me to also try to help these bones, but just curious. These days I am motivated by the improvements I can feel now but I know that will taper off soon.

Do not put a timeline on how much you can improve @bkolden because whatever you believe in, materializes.

Having an event as a goal isn’t my favorite “why”, for several reasons that I will post about soon.

As for finding your whys… go 5 layers deep. Ask yourself “why do I ride (or train)?” To the answer, ask “why” again. Then again until you have done 5 layers deep. That should provide some insight beyond the health part. You may also use that for other things, such as strength training.

Once you find the whys, you can then think about process goals that will support them.

After you’ve established the foundational goals/whys, you could add secondary ones such as trying something new.

Oh this is so good! Thank you @Coach_Theia I guess I said that my improvements would taper but maybe I should have said slow down. You have said that before. I will work on this mental exercise in the next few days. This type of “why” is more long lasting than an event that comes and goes. Thank you!
