What is your carbohydrate of choice for these scenarios?
Thank you for posting this. I just seem to struggle with how to operationalize these data to my day. Almost wish I could have a “final surge” calendar to tell me what to eat and when. I’ll keep working to wrap my head around this.
@bkolden the above is for during workouts and rides only. Aside from that, I find from experience that the general rule of thumb for pre and post WO nutrition is a solid guideline, with tweaks to meet individual demands.
Unfortunately there is no absolutes or black and white rules in nutrition, because we are dealing with the human body. Keeping a journal is your best bet if you want to get detailed about macros and carb intake. The suggestion in this case is to use a food/macro tracker such as the apps Lose It, MyFitnessPal, etc. That along with notes on how you feel can give you a complete picture of your needs.
If you are feeling energized enough for the workouts/races and are recovering well, you have found a good balance.
Another alterantive is using Fuelin. You could try that for a few months, but heads up that it means additional work for you and one more thing to use your mental energy on. Fuelin tells you exactly what to eat and when.
Using these apps does not have to be forever. Using trackers for a few months is quite eye-opening and we tend to learn a lot from using them. Knowledge that we can then carry with us without needing them anymore.
Thank you for this advice. We have discussed this before and I think I am just overthinking. A comment was made in the TDF yesterday that “nurtition is the new doping” and just had me wondering if I improved nutrition then it would make a difference. But What I am beginning to think is that with your past help I have a reasonably good balance currently. I know I feel ALOT better in my workouts and after especially with some adjustments I have made. Thank you and I will keep watching, tracking and adjusting. And I am pretty sure I don’t requite as many carbs as you since I am certainly not putting out 910w on a ride!! BRAVO!!
