Zwift Racing League Fall 2020

I looked it up as well - too funny!

@Coach_Theia you’ll be pleased to hear I have my kickr core. I tried it out on a short ride this afternoon and again on the TTT race this evening. It was a very smooth ride and I can’t fault it.

My race on the other hand was not so smooth. Oh my, Oh my, but my legs ached by the end. The team were just too strong for me on that second lap going up the hill. I’m struggling to grab a wheel and they’re doing 5/6 wkg. I’m sorry to say my little legs could not keep up.
But I always like to look on the bright side, by the end of the race I’d had a really good Threshold workout.
Actually Daniela Istrate (who raced with us) did point out to the ladies after the race that it was a risky move them dropping me like that. We’d had a rider who nobody could see on the screen (although she could see us) and her name was on the riders list, and there was a good possibility that Daniela would have to leave the race early which potentially would have left them with three riders at the finish line and me nearly 2 minutes back. She went on to explained that the weaker rider would ride the hills at her agreed set TT pace and the stronger riders would help by giving here a draft, Instead of the weaker rider yoyoing trying to draft stronger ones. What she said made sense. As it happened everything worked out just fine and we were 8th in the final results. (there were only two other teams in zone 5 and they were mostly made up of C and D riders)

@gosimrr TOB has been pushed to Jan. Something big in Zwift is going on that weekend.

I had an enjoyable racing week. Tuesday’s TTT, there are only 4 of us, and we placed 14th. Thursday’s TTT, we finished 30 in the Mocha class. I finished with the group on both races.

It was fast, it was furious, it was brutal, and it was oh so much fun
Petit Boucle 29 miles of music blaring, heart pounding and the Ds giving words of encouragement, which, I admit I felt like cursing at times  but she was wonderful and the kick up the butt I needed when I started to flag. I lost the team on the hill, raced on my own until the bottom where I came upon a socks4watts rider. I snuck in behind her and had a breather then we worked together till the end. It came down to a sprint, she deployed a feather, me a drafting truck, coming from behind to beat her at the finish. I came 26th so got some points for the team. But it was how I raced that pleased me the most. I finally managed to draft. After all this time trying to learn the technique, last night it all came together. I even tried for the balloon sprint, coming 4th I think I was  My graph looked much better. Well done to the ladies who raced. I’ll see some of you on tomorrows TTT :hugs:

Well done @Debbie you’re right it was tough but fun, I do enjoy those French routes. I tried to go out from the start with the front group but my avatar did a weird shooting across the screen thing which put me right at the back of that first group and I only managed to hang on for a short time. Then I was with the second group on the road for quite a while but the group split up on the Aqueduct and then more on the wiggly bit so then I was with a smaller group for the remainder I feel like I did better on drafting the group around me this and in all those group changes I sat at around 30th to 35th position all the way and came in 30th overall with (I think) some good power on the climbs and final sprint.

I’m most definitely average in C category at the moment, with my goal being to get to be a stronger C.

Great race reports. I am so happy to read how each one of you are seeing personal improvements on these.

Tracy I had a problem with zwift freezing on me while I was on my warm up ride, which worried me a bit. Since the last couple of updates users have reported issues.

It’s always tough when we move up a category. I have the same problem in the Bs. We have some strong ladies and it can be hard keeping up in races. That being said, I feel I am getting stronger because I do ride and race with them. You will be the same. In no time at all you’ll be giving Karla a run for her money. :grinning:

Wow that was a tough race in France. Well done @Debbie and @Tracyligemagreen!

I had a blast. I stuck in the front group until the aqueduct when things got split apart. I ended up in a good sized group of around 20 and we all stuck together until the climb when we all split apart again. I managed to stay on the tail end of the front group after the split holding on for dear life. But couldn’t keep up with them on the downhill. So was alone for a little bit until a couple ladies caught me up from behind. Then we all worked together and very slowly caught up to that other group. It was awesome! So it ended up a bunch sprint of about 10 or so and I 100% messed it up. I knew it was a blind corner but I thought there was one more corner and there wasn’t so I started the sprint way too late. Still, I finished 47th of the 90 that started, my best yet. And I feel really good about changing up my cadence on the flats to get some rest even when the power was still the same.

Training peaks tells me I got 4 peak performances, though since I have the free version I don’t know what they are. And, I took flonase before the race and could breath really well the whole time! Had some chest tightness and a little cough afterwards but it went away pretty fast. I wish my doctor had said take the stuff in winter too before hard efforts, would have saved me two winters of gasping. Here’s my race timeline, you can totally see where I got dropped from the front group

I had a blast in the ZRL yesterday! I have improved with every race, and I am especially happy about being able to stick with the front group for a long time, doing power surges when necessary, and cruising in the draft. I was soooo good at never pulling in front :joy:
I eventually lost the front group up the aqueduct, but managed to hang on to some others in the same situation, and we kept the second group well behind until the end. The last hill before the last downhill was awful, though. Still, I ended up 17th out of around 50, and I knew from my research on ZP before the race, that close to forty of them were stronger than me.
I have no doubt that the 360 workouts have helped me improve!! I feel it’s more achievable to become a mid C rider now. I’d like to reach 3.0 w/kg next year.
Like Tracy and Debbie (hi, teammates ) , I also had problems with Zwift freezing during the warmup - it must be the new update, because I have actually never (!) had those issues before.

Hi Nina well done in your race. I’m predicting your 3.0 w/kg will come before the end of the year. You’ve really come on strongly. :hugs:

I wish @Debbie ! I know it won’t happen that soon, though, because I will be out of the loop from Dec 8 due to an operation. It’ll set me back a few weeks :frowning: But maybe the second ZRL in the new year will make it happen…? :grinning:

Congrats to everyone who raced last night. I collected my one point and tried to do workout 6.2.1 during the race. I know the other ladies thought I was crazy. I started at an explosive 77 watts. It was an interesting puzzle because now I had to also watch the time and terrain in addition to the watts and cadence. I don’t think I am ready for a road workout where steering and obstacles are added to the equation. A rider caught me during a rest interval, and then a new interval started, and I raced off. I know she was shaking her head and thinking that I am a crazy woman. The good news is I did the workout and did not finish last. We only had three riders, so my contribution was finishing so our strong rider could get 6th place.

Great race report Stephanie! Congrats on moving up on the result board…I had a funny feeling you were going to. Love reading the details. I think I held on to that front group for 15 minutes…not long. My Training Peaks trial premium ended so I’m on the free…I’m going to miss those bits of info. I made the mistake of doing a 360Velo workout this morning…ouch!

Thanks @dirtgoddess! I saw you in the front group and have to say you helped keep me there. I kept wondering how long I could keep up the pace and wanted to ease up, but seeing you in the group too had me repeating to myself, I can’t give up, I can’t give up. So thank you! And fabulous racing on your part! I saw you had done a workout the day after and appreciated and admired the 100% craziness of your decision

@kellynoelharman that’s so funny! I am sure riders around you were very confused.

Haha thanks @Stefanie! I was not getting my stars on the hardest block of that workout…so I’ll have to rethink workouts after races. It’s just tricky fitting them in. I admire you for holding on to that front group for as long as you did. It’s so fun to race with you REVO ladies:)

@kellynoelharman-I thought about during a workout during that race and started with interval 1. I had a team mate and a pack with me . It occurred to me that 23 miles is a freaking long ride solo. I abandoned Plan A and finished it as team #3 as tempo-threshold ride.

I only had a few miles left when the workout was over so it worked out great. If I warmed up before the race, I probably would have scrapped it and rode with the pack too.

Thursday night TTT was tough. My highest watts/kg TTT to date. We had a full team tonight, and we started off hot. (From the start until the top of the KOM was a new PR for me) I hit the climb in the red and realized it was going to be a long night. Thank you, Zwift Gods, for the Supertuck. The group settles a bit to an ā€œalmost manageableā€ pace. I chanted to myself, ā€œIt’s easier in the group; just stay with the group for 5 more minutes.ā€ At 35 minutes in, I regretted that glass of wine with Thanksgiving dinner, and at 45 minutes, I thought I might get see that dinner again on the floor. With 1.5 miles to go, my legs very unhappy and want some relief. During a TTT in the spring, I gave out at this point and was not doing that again. We finished 21/56 in the Mocha division.
