Great race report Kelly. Yes the TTT was tough. I hung on by my teeth until after the KOM and we were heading into the desert. I would show my race report card but I think by now you all know how it looks when I’m hanging on for dear life
Did anyone else submit a weight and height video? That was a first for me Doing the video was fine, uploading it to the team took me all morning. It wasn’t a total waste of my time though as I did learn how to use Google Drive. Found out you can’t send big files via email, even if you Zip file them and learnt about setting up and uploading my video to YouTube. (YouTube is probably how I will upload them in the future) I gave myself a headache but learnt a lot
Well, we did our pre-session warm up together, ready to take on our first race. …and then the issues started…
For some reason, when I logged on to ride I did not get put in the pen. No mention of the race I had signed up for to j’oin event’, even though it was registered in my calendar. After exiting and then logging back on I was able to find Pam in the pens. A “hi” to each other confirmed that we were ready to rock and roll in Innsbruck. We were connected via Discord but unfortunately it was not very clear so we went out and rode our race independently.
I went out HARD powered by the maple syrup tonic that was suggested – thank you @vivian.a.workman the shot glass did the trick. YUMMY I must confess I even stuck my finger in to get the last remnants.
I found a group to hang onto but they were ‘c’s and that was a tough go. The hill came and I took the advice to go into it with high RPMS and then I powered with low cadence high power. It was tough! Powered over the hills and into the sprint where I took second WOO HOO!
Could not find a group to hang onto on the second lap and I was really pushing it, encouraged by the 360 Velo playlist!
On the second lap, I was anticipating the hill around every corner, getting ready to climb by getting into high cadence. I rode with a C and we shared drafting along the way but when we got to the hill HOLY TORPEDO BATMAN! he/ her took right off. Harder to do that hill the second time around. But…that maple syrup gave me the energy I needed for the second sprint and was able to lay down some good power. Finished with a sprint and then had time to breathe to check in to find Pam.
I stayed on the route cooling down to cheer Pam on and encouraged her across the finish line.
Pam sent me a screen shot of my finishing time - I had not seen it! When I closed down and checked companion app – the race had not registered for me. WHAT!!! I looked at zwift power and it was there. So no idea what happened. So, no record of me doing the race just Pam who rode an awesome race. Anyway Pam and I know we BOTH did it! Computer glitches seem to be haunting me…mercury must be in retrograde! A few pics to prove we were there!
So exciting to read about your first race @kswhite and @mapmeister!!! I actually think it went really well despite the technical issues. You can’t see your result in Zwift Power Kim because they DQ’d you for not wearing a HR monitor (see the initials HR next to your name), otherwise you would have been right there on the podium with Pam!!
Ha ha @Stefanie I think I’m still on the fence. Although I’m not a mom, I can’t help but think it might be a little bit like childbirth, in that the further you get away from it the less pain you recall.
With all due respect to everybody who’s ever had a child
I am actually considering another race … so that I can practice strategy. And wear a HR monitor so I don’t get DQ’d !
Brave @kswhite and @mapmeister on your race!!! Very well done. I rode the 30 minute endurance part of my workout today on the same course in your honor. Outstanding you two!!
Speaking of my workout… it was the Long Climb and Sprints. I was pleased that I was able to do the 3 minute standing interval without falling off my bike! lol. The end of that workout is a 30 minute endurance block. In the intro video with the workout @Coach_Theia said I could do the endurance block outside of workout mode to use the terrain. @Coach_Theia and Forum-mates, is there a way to get out of workout mode and keep riding without having to end the ride and exit all the way out and restart a ride from the beginning?
Also, as per the discussing on the Zoom yesterday, I am still unable to connect to the 360 group on the Discourse App. What are the magic words needed to find the correct site in the app. I’ve tried every combination of words for the group and it keeps saying “site not found”. Help!
@bkolden if you are adding an endurance block at the end of your workout, you can go up to the cool down interval and then hit the tab key on your computer and skip the cooldown block, the workout end screen will come up and you can say ok and you will still be in zwift. Then you can do your endurance block. It will all save as one ride since you never excited Zwift. It looks like you can use the companion app to skip an interval as well All About the New Zwift Companion App | Zwift Insider
When I add endurance on to my workouts on Saturday I usually do the whole workout and use the cooldown block as a rest interval, so not actually cooling down but going at the rest interval pace. The workout completed screen will come up at the end and you just say OK and you will be put back in zwift where you can do your endurance block. It will be the same ride so everything will be in the same file.
@Coach_Theia Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts! Your post really hit home for me.
I was catching up on the forum and found the post about last year’s Women’s Championships. I am helping organize the event for our team, so I have spent most of November encouraging teammates to “join the fun.” Of course, I somehow ended up on the list to participate myself. I find myself very worried that I am yet again wrecking the forward progress of my training, but I love the teamwork and community these events create, which energizes me and keeps me on the bike. I guess it is all a matter of balance, which is so hard to find.
I have been up Mount Evan (Not on a bike), and all I have to say is, “YIKES, that is IMPRESSIVE.”
I find myself signed up for the Women’s Championship thanks to @kellynoelharman 's fantastic powers of persuasion. She also knows how I feel so under-qualified but managed to convince me of how much fun it will be. @Coach_Theia, since we are doing F&F will you have advice for those of us in the Women’s Champ for workouts that week?
Not sure where to post this, but they added an extra time slot for the Tour de Budicca for the stage 1 race. Our team suggested it because some people couldn’t get out of work to race that day. And they listened. So if that was holding you back, maybe this will change your mind.
Its great they finally listened and did it. I know someone from my team that had been helping on the committee still suggested it several weeks back and it wasn’t acted upon. It will definitely help those of us in the US/CA and I guess Australia possibly also.
